Ashida Kim

From The Martial Arts Encyclopedia

Ashida Kim is the pseudonym for Christopher Hunter, an author and martial artist who resides in Florida. Ashida Kim claims extensive experience in Ninjutsu and other ninja-related practices, including invisibility, dim mak (death touch), and infiltration.

Bullshido.net Challenges Kim

Ashida Kim has established a "$10,000" challenge which basically states that he will not fight an opponent unless that opponent puts up $10,000 dollars to challenge him in a one-on-one fight. However, there are additional conditions that Kim has established, such as allowing him to win by "pinfall," or merely pinning an opponent's shoulders to the mat wrestling-style.

In 2002, members Osiris and Anthony decided to take Kim up on his challenge. Anthony withdrew $10,000 dollars from the bank and took pictures of the money, demonstrating his willingness to challenge Kim.

Kim backpeddled from his challenge, asserting that Anthony took steroids and that he was trying to beat up a "frail old man."

Bullshido.net Exposes Kim's "Belt Factory"

After Kim backed down from his own challenge, Bullshido.net looked into a side business of Kim's - granting rank to people in exchange for payment. In martial arts, this is known as a "belt factory," and is akin to "diploma mills" in education.

Bullshido member Te no Kage! (TNK) decided to submit an application to Kim, stating that he had a black belt in Vale Tudo and desired to have certification stating as such.

Kim provided such documentation to TNK, even though Vale Tudo does not have a formal belt system, nor does Kim claim any rank in Vale Tudo or other NHB styles. When pressed on this latter point, Kim claimed that he had an associate who was a mixed martial artist that evaluated TNK's application and approved the certification.

"Shit List"

Kim maintained a “Shit List” on his website which included which contained personal information of parties he feels aggrieved by. This list includes:

  • Paladin Press (his former publisher who he states stole stories and royalties from him)
  • Jimbo Wales of Wikipedia
  • Phrost, the owner and director of Bullshido
  • Literary agent Ethan Ellenberg, who he claims owes him $2 million.

In the case of Wales and Fletcher, Kim has included personal information such as home addresses and phone numbers, and stated:

"This information will remain up until Wikipedia and Bullshido.com take down their trash and bash entries on Ashida Kim altogether and remove all references to him from every page of their websites."

The list has since been been removed, however the Wikipedia article and the and articles on Bullshido.net and .org still exist.

The "Shit List" has been replaced with a general essay on enemies, which states that "we let go our vengeance. We do not forgive, nor forget. We seek only to better ourselves by following the Way.
