Background and Credentials
As per his profile at his website, Rudy's experience (spanning 25+ years) is as follows:
-Sung Family Longfist
-Emperor's Monkey Style (Subset of Longfist)
-Northern Shaolin
-Yang Tai Chi Chuan/ Chi Gung
-Smatterings of other styles
Rudy Abel claims that he has participated in sanshou, kickboxing and boxing competitions. However, no evidence of such events has ever surfaced, and when asked for proof his answer is that his "backwater matches" were never videotaped.
In 2002, shortly after the opening of the McDojo.com forums, Rudy was invited by Phrost to participate in the site and provide a balanced view of so-called "Traditional Martial Arts." He typically took up the defense of such arts, especially Kung Fu or Chinese Martial Arts against criticism by practitioners of Mixed Martial Arts. He generally took exception to the generalized blanket views that many members held at the time. Although his participation on Bullshido.net can be classified as hostile, he has contributed useful ideas that have benefited the site, such as suggesting the inclusion of a repository for members' competition videos.
Rudy has left the forum and returned several times; in most cases he has left over arguments involving criticism of Bullshido's practices of letting trolls disrupt discussions to maintain an idealogical end. He was again invited back to the site by Phrost to view the new Chinese Martial Arts sub-forum. Rudy was dismissive of the new sub-forum, and resorted to trolling in response.
After his final departure, which resulted from the resignation of Ronin for unrelated reasons, Rudy formed his own discussion forum which he claims exists as a watchdog to the flaws and errors of Bullshido.net. The site currently boasts less than a dozen regularly-contributing members and less than 200 registered members, though three are former administrators or moderators of Bullshido.net. The forum often serves as a sounding board for those that are systematically drowned out or "Trollshido'd" on Bullshido when presenting arguments that are unfavorable or inconvenient to the status quo.
It is interesting to note that Rudy Abel's complaints of his posts being Trollshido'd are in part due to him trolling.
Controversy
Rudy accepted a challenge to fight Bill Easlick, an MMA fighter who posted as ShaolinTiger00 on the Kung Fu Magazine forums on May 17th, 2006. Rudy said September or October 2006 would be acceptable. Mr Easlick offered to get them on the Sept 22nd King of the Cage show at Soboba Casino in San Jacinto, California. Rudy declined less than one hour later, so no one from KOTC or the casino had reason to contact Rudy.
Mr. Easlick's post was made two weeks after Rudy allegedly posted his knee surgery on the Truthma.org and KFM forums. Interesting to note, Kung Fu Mag member Ukokusai made this prediction almost a month later that Rudy Abel would back out using a mysterious injury.
Rudy Abel's propensity to making and accepting challenges is well documented even in that thread with Shaolin Tiger: wherein he challenges another member of Kung Fu Magazine, "Knifefighter" to a fight. Which also failed to materialize.
Rudy also made disparaging remarks about forum member Djimbe's instructor, including calling him "infirm." When Djimbe asked if Rudy wanted to 'cross hands' with his instructor, Rudy declined.
In July of 2004 Rudy also challenged Dragonslist member "Bagua Bear." This challenge also failed to result in a fight.
In February of 2005 Rudy challenged a BS forum member named "Henry". This challenge also failed to result in a fight.
In July 2007 Rudy challenged forum member Zapruder to come to Florida and fight him. Zapruder accepted, but Rudy refused to provide a location This challenge also failed to result in a fight.
In March of 2008 Rudy e-challenged Boyd and Osiris on his site. Both accepted the offer and asked for Rudy's school as a venue. Rudy has so far refused to provide the info on the school claiming he trains at Shamel Park and wants the fight to be there. This is contradicted by user 'Beknar' on Rudy's site, who claims Rudy has a school he trains at. As anyone would have to break the law in order to fight Rudy at Shamel Park, some believe this is Rudy's way of finding an "Ashida Kim style" of throwing out challenges and making ridicuous conditions and terms in order to ensure he will never have to actually fight in any challenge match.
On May 2, 2008 Rudy told forum member 1bad65, "I'm close to getting a movie job in Austin this month. I could be at your school kicking your limp ass in as little as two weeks." When pressed for details such as the name of this movie and the timeframe he would be in Austin, Rudy refused to answer. 1bad65 told Rudy he would be at the Austin Throwdown on May 17th 2008 and they could fight there. Rudy then backed out of fighting 1bad65. This challenge also failed to result in a fight.
On 11/15/2004, Rudy Abel issued a challenge to Anthony (Then Bullshido Moderator).
This sent both parties into a tailspin with Anthony finally posting to Rudy Abel that it is only each party who shows up and if the other needs medical attention the other would assist. This was not acceptable to Rudy, who insisted that Anthony be patted down for weapons and drugs by police before making it to Shamel Park. link When faced with the incredulous replies, Rudy then backed out of his Challenge match.
A discussion broke out regarding Rudy Abel not attending any of the local Bullshido Throwdowns. Rudy made the statment that beating on Bullshido member Fatherdog was not worth the money spent in flight and boarding. This was rebutted by Anthony who stated he would pay for Rudy's exspense. Rudy accepted this proposal, contracts were drawn up by Sam Browning and Golden Jonas (Bullshido's Legal Team). In the correspondence between Sam Browning and Rudy Abel, Rudy was combative and unreasonable. Although the contract was open to modification Rudy would not agree to it.

On June 5th, 2007, after much posturing by Rudy and Anthony, another fight was issued by Rudy Abel and the challenge was accepted by Anthony. In light of Rudy Abel's history of e-challenges, Anthony created a thread on Bullshido to track Rudy's actions leading up to the fight date. The days leading up to Rudy and Anthony's fight, Rudy Abel changed the venue twice and the actual fight day three times.
link The fight took place at Action Fitness, on Oct 1st 2007, 7:00PM. Anthony took Rudy's barrage for approx 45 seconds, with Anthony nearly falling out of the ring after the second failed double-leg attempt. Both fighters were repositioned in the center of the ring and Anthony was able to take Rudy down on his third double-leg attempt. [http://youtube.com/watch?v=XrsxIPJBqfElink Both fighters were again on the ropes, with Anthony on top, and were brought back to the middle and restarted. From that position it took less than 15 seconds for Anthony to dismantle Rudy Able's defenses and force Rudy to tap out twice, as the first tap was not seen by Anthony or the referee.
Anthony won the match by submission due to strikes at 1:22 of the first round. At the time of the fight, Anthony was a Brazillian jiu jitsu white belt, with 10 months of MMA training.
Rudy later used the excuse of an "Ear Grind" as the reason he tapped out. link This video shows the final seconds of the fight, and as you can see, Rudy's ear never touches the mat for an "Ear Grind" to happen. However, one can plainly see unanswered punches and elbows which forced Rudy to turtle up and then submit after the knee to the head.
Rudy has since provided numerous excuses for his loss; which include claims that his knee was not 100% healed, that the referee did not do his job right, that he wore the wrong clothes, and the difference in weight. All things that were not at issue prior to him losing.
